American Board of Otolaryngology

American Board of Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery

The American Board of Otolaryngology (ABO) was founded in 1924 and is the second-oldest of the 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). An otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon) is a physician who has been prepared by an accredited residency program to provide comprehensive medical and surgical care of patients with diseases and disorders that affect the ears, the respiratory and upper alimentary systems, and related structures of the head and neck. Board certification is a demanding voluntary program in which specialists seek to improve their performance and demonstrate a commitment to their profession.
